Youtube : TEAM SANJAYA. DAMMIT.

rfid news

I’m calling these two ZACJAYA!That’s it. I can’t take it any more. All the racist, homophobic hatred being flung at Sanjaya Malakar, sixth season contestant on American idol has reached my maximum capacity here. And all the grown folks doing it have got to get a grip and take a look at what they’re doing. Yep, I’m not ashamed to say it - I was on Team Sanjaya.

No, He wasn’t the person I want to win (that’d be Melinda). He wasn’t the best at song choice either (that’d be Blake). No, he wasn’t the prettiest (that’d be Jordin). No, he wasn’t the best or most technically proficient singer there (Melinda again). But he CAN sing. No, listen to me. Put aside the bullshit media frenzy of the last 2 months and listen to me. Sanjaya Malakar can sing. Not brilliantly, but he can. He has a pretty tone, he can carry a tune, and he is an entertaining performer. He’s certainly not any worse than 99.5% of the people you hear on the radio. He’s also adorable, and infectiously sunny, and I for one am sorry to see him go. I hope he rides the momentum of the show as far as it’ll take him. I wouldn’t mind seeing him on a CW or Disney series or something like that. See above! Does he not already fit right in with the other Disney kids? I think yes.

No matter what anyone says - and again, please do note that the vast majority of wolf-pack-mentality haterade being toasted in Sanjaya’s direction oozes homophobia and/or racism, if not both, which is extra stupid when you consider most of the people doing it are at least twice this guy’s age - Sanjaya absolutely earned his place in this season’s lot. The people who got cut before him weren’t as good as he was, and that is a fact. With her constant Avrilesque eyerolling and flat, ordinary voice, Gina Glocksen both sucked and blew. Stephanie Edwards had a nice tone, but hit maybe 1 out of every 3 notes she aimed for, and that is a fact. Chris Sligh failed to capitalize on his early momentum for whatever reason (I am still bitter, since as y’all know, he was one of my early favorites). Haley Scarnato? Come on. And you know what? Sanjaya should’ve outlasted Chris Richardson just for his ridiculous comments last week. Nasal is a kind of singing, Chris? Yeah, people take lessons to not do that kind of singing. It’s a kind of BAD singing, genius. Sanjaya? Is a better singer than Chris Richardson.

I’m just disturbed and irritated that all this horrible abuse has been heaped on this poor teenage boy for no discernible reason. It’s disgusting to me that FOX would allow that horrible woman from the street cameras to call him a “sweet girly-girl boy” on national television last week, and yet Sanjaya was STILL smiling and poking fun at himself after that. I’ve seen him on a couple of talk shows after that, and he was intelligent, genuine and poised. What can I say. I love this kid’s spirit. Sanjaya is a trooper. Most adults wouldn’t have handled themselves half as well.

So, farewell, Sanjaya. This season isn’t going to be the same without you. You keep on trucking. I hope we see you around. Oh yeah, and no matter what anybody tells you, YOU CAN SO sing, baby.
