Vista: Make Aero Perform Faster

If your video card is having a hard time with the Aero interface and you’d like to continue to enjoy Aero’s features, such as Flip 3D and the taskbar thumbnails, follow these instructions…
Disable Transparency
1. Right-click your desktop and click Personalize.
2. In the right pane, select Windows Color and Appearance.
3. Uncheck the Enable transparency checkbox.
4. Click OK.
Disable the Animation for minimizing and maximizing windows
1. Right-click Computer and select Properties.
2. Select Advanced system settings from the left pane.
3. When the UAC prompt comes up, click Continue.
4. Under Performance, click the Settings button.
5. Under the Visual Effects tab, uncheck the Animate windows when minimizing and maximizing checkbox.
6. Click OK.
