According to Iranian state television the Telecommunications Ministry will soon begin filtering out ‘immoral’ messages sent using the Multimedia Messaging Service on citizens’ mobile phones.

The action is being taken at the order of the Iranian Supreme Council of the Cultural Revolution, a body which came into being after the Iranian Islamic revolution in 1979. The ministry has been told to purchase the necessary equipment.

“… in order to prevent possible misuse of MMS, immoral actions and social problems, the Telecommunications Ministry will filter immoral MMS,” the state media organisation reported. No technical details of how the system will work were provided.
