Last.fm will announce four new features in a press release tomorrow, although a few observant users will notice them going live today. Last.fm, you may recall, is a neat social network that lets you get music recommendations based on what people like you are listening to and enjoying. Tomorrow they’ll announce a new flash player, an events system, free MP3 downloads and revamped profile pages that are more social.

Unobtrusive AJAX Rating Script

What It Is

This is a rating bar script done with PHP and mySQL that allows users to rate things like can be done on Netflix or Amazon, all web 2.0-like with no page refresh. It is a major improvement on the previous version because it is now unobtrusive, meaning that if Javascript is off it will still work (although the page will refresh). You can also set the number of rating units you want to use (i.e. 4 stars, 5 stars, or 10 stars) on a rater to rater basis (see samples below or read the docs)

Upgrade to Windows Vista without a Previous Version of Windows….

Hack Zine had a great post on how to upgrade to Windows Vista without having a previous version of Windows installed. The work around requires that you first install a beta copy of Windows Vista, and then run the upgrade. Thats not a bad way to save some money. Read the more »
