Google Desktop for the Mac 1.0

Today Google announced the availability of Google Desktop for the Mac (download now available from Google’s Mac OS X software page). What’s Google Desktop, you ask? It is an application from Google, which indexes the contents of your hard drive (including applications, most files, PDFs, as well as web histories from Safari, Firefox, and Camino) and makes it searchable a la Spotlight. Our PC using friends have had this application for awhile, and it is nice to see that Google hasn’t forgotten about us Mac users.

Google Desktop for the Mac is a Universal application, requires OS X 10.4 or later, and is free.

Windows Vista Goes to Boot Camp

Over the past several weeks, there was some speculation that the release of Windows Vista would force Apple to delay the launch of Mac OS X Leopard while it resolved Windows Vista compatibility issues with Boot Camp, but the news of Boot Camp update should calm those fears. Boot Camp 1.2 is capable not only of running the 32-bit version of Windows Vista but also of displaying the system’s much-touted Aero graphics.

Sleek and Spicy website header Tutorial - Web 2.0 Style

In this tutorial I am going to teach you how to make a nice sleek looking mockup for a website header.

* We start by opening a new document (Ctrl+N) (Cmnd+N - Note for mac users - Replace the CTRL with Command) Dimensions 800px width X 120px Height - Background color set as white for now. OK
* On the background layer go choose black as your color and than go select the paint bucket tool- than click on your stage to fill the bg with black.
* Create a new layer above the bg(background) layer and name it “pattern”. While the pattern layer selected go select paint bucket tool and then go up to the top of the screen to the properties panel and select PATTERN instead of FOREGROUND.

It looks like an extended Flash drive and connects via USB 2.0. Once connected you can view and record TV. It also supports EPG (Electronic Programming Guide) so you can program your Mac to record your favourite soap, it will start and stop recording at the stipulated time. You can sit back and relax as you can change the channels using the Apple Remote. The only disadvantage is the 17cms long antenna. The unit measures 23×94.2×9.8mm and weighs 22 grams.
