Are Social Bookmarking Sites Better at Search than Google?

I have long thought that social bookmarking and ranking sites like del.icio.us, digg, and StumbleUpon could be used to enhance current web search results. In March I argued that that StumbleUpon could easily be used for “enhancing or augmenting traditional search engine rankings.” Some people, like Rand Fishkin of SEOMoz, already think that del.icio.us provides better search results than Google.

Rand argues that del.icio.us results are more timely, more focused on his demographic, higher quality, and more diverse. He concedes, however, that del.icio.us results do not always list the best first, sometimes lack relevance, and are either ten times better or ten times worse than Google depending on your view.

Melinda Doolittle American Idol is a complete outrage…

Melinda Doolittle gone?!?!?… I don’t even know what to say other that the people who run this show need to figure out a different method of voting because in the past two weeks they have gotten rid of the two best vocalists on the show…. which if i recall correctly is a vocal competition. wow… I’m still in shock I don’t know whats worse that the producers of the show are satisfied with such a faulty system or that the American public is so stupid that they would not only let Melinda get voted off but they would also keep Sanjya Malakar on the show for so long being that ever since the first episode he has had the absolute worst vocal every single night…. I don’t even know anymore… but yeah i totally agree with what the writter is saying on this site…

Another Massive Social Network hi5

hi5, which launched in late 2003, is a massive MySpace-style social network. The site targets the teens and twenties demographic and claims to have over 40 million members. According to the latest Hitwise stats (June ‘06), hi5 is the 8th most visited US social network. However, the site is losing market share - it now accounts for 0.78% of the social networking market, down from 1.06% in May. And although not explicitly stated, Hi5 appears to be more targeted than MySpace - many of the site’s users are fans of HipHop and R&B.

Mobile Game Revenue in US Hits $151 Million in Q4 2006

On-portal mobile game revenue jumped 61 percent year-over-year to $151 million in Q4 2006 (see Table 1).
