Super Bowl and the Ads

Embarrassing to say that it was only on Monday that I learned there was a Super Bowl holiday. Well, coming from a country outside US I guess that excuses my lack of knowledge of that fact. I only became aware of it when I talked with a friend online and asked him why they don’t have work that day and he said its Super Bowl and I said ahhhh. You can probably imagine it was funny and embarrassing at the same time.

After that conversation I read on the topic. Like I said, the Super Bowl has come to be likened to U.S. national holiday is the championship game of the National Football League. It is America’s most watched television broadcast of the year. Being so, it attracts lots of companies to invest on ads and commercials.

Companies have to spend $85000 per second on these commercials! That’s a lot of money for just a several second of showing. But companies think it’s all worth the exposure their products get. With this much money at stake companies had better be sure their ads are really something that will stick in people’s minds. Some of the advertisements that made a good hit during the Super Bowl include Sprint Nextel, Coke’s video-game like animation, Anheuser-Busch, Budweiser, FedEx and Snickers. At the other end of the spectrum are the flops like ads from Hewlett-Packard and Izod.

Good job to those who made the rave reviews and better luck next time to the floppy and sloppy commercials.
