Sexual Harassment Case Is Settled By the GardenWith the prospect of an additional $9.6 million in compensatory damages on the horizon, Madison Square Garden settled the sexual harassment lawsuit brought by former employee Anucha Browne Sanders (pictured). MSG, owned by Cablevision, agreed to pay her $11.5 million, including $4 million in legal fees, according to the NYT.

Testimony on the compensatory damages the punitive damages portion of the jury’s $11.6 million verdict was set to take place before a Judge Gerard Lynch later this week. The Garden indicated in a statement yesterday that NBA Commish David Stern — a former Proskauer partner — had urged the team to settle. Stern has been vocal in criticizing the Garden’s handling of the case.

“The outcome was a travesty of justice, and we vehemently disagree with the jury’s decision; however at the strong request of Commissioner Stern and in the interest of focusing on basketball, we can all agree that it is time for us to move on and put this issue behind us,” said the Garden’s statement. Said Knicks coach Isiah Thomas: “As I’ve said before, I am completely innocent.”
