After several months, and one update, Nokia Maps 2.0 has graduated from the Nokia Beta Labs and is now available as a fully supported production application. I’ve given a you a preview of Nokia Maps back in April when it was announced at the 2008 Mobile World Congress, and have used it off and on since then. New features that are available in the Nokia Maps 2.0 update include a new pedestrian-friendly Walk mode, with cheaper subscription rates and a handy ‘breadcrumb’ feature that keeps a visual trail of where you’ve been.
Satellite imagery has also been added, and traffic information, in certain countries, is available, with auto-routing around traffic jams. There is a search field right on the standby screen, so you can quickly and easily search for whatever you need to find. Unfortunately, in this version, this search field supports T9 input, but doesn’t allow you to add a new word to the dictionary, prompting me to T9 when using Maps, to avoid the headache of switching it off and on.
I am pleased, however, to report that the E90 is now fully supported, with the bug that mixed up the softkeys on the internal screen having been tended do. There is a new Map Loader application, as well, so be sure to download the upgrade so that you can have the latest mapping information.
You can download the new version of Nokia Maps 2.0 directly here, or click here to read all about the new features.
*Note* - Currently, Nokia Maps 2.0 is only available for S60v3 FP1 devices.
