Mac OS X Tip: Share Your Internet Connection With Others

rfid news

sharing.gifHave you ever been in a hotel room with other people when you wished that you didn’t all have to pay for the internet connection at $15 a night? Or maybe you are somewhere that only has 1 internet port and your friend wants to also get on the internet. Well, if you have a Mac, you can solve these types of problems by using a feature built right into OS X.

The feature is called “Internet Sharing” and it can be found under “Sharing” in your Network Preferences. Here are the different internet sharing options that you have when enabling this feature…

* Share Built-in Modem connection using Ethernet port
* Share AirPort connection using Ethernet port
* Share Ethernet connection using AirPort
* Share Ethernet connection using FireWire port
* Share AirPort connection using FireWire port

So, how do you go about it? It’s really quite simple. Here are the steps…

    1. Go to System Preferences

    2. Click on “Sharing”

    3. Click on the “Internet” button/tab

    4. You will see on the picture below that you can select from different options for the output of your internet sharing along with the one you will be using. Just click which ones you want. I have selected to share it using my Airport connection with the Firewire port being the output.

    5. Click start

    6. Connect computers via the way you have selected.

    7. Enjoy the internet connection!

Note: If you don’t see any options under the Internet Sharing ports like in the picture I posted, you must go to Network under system prefs, then on the top drop down menu you must click Show: Network Port Configurations. Then you must add the different ports (if you want Firewire, add Firewire, etc.)

I hope you guys enjoyed this tip.                                                        techpwn.com
