Is it a humongous hog, a monster mistake, or a huge hoax?
That’s the question being asked Tuesday about a stunning photo distributed last Friday by the Associated Press that purports to show an 11-year-old Alabama boy standing behind a half-ton wild hog his father said he bagged with a pistol.
The boy, Jamison Stone, looks tiny in the photo as he stands behind his prize pig, which his father claims measures 9 feet 4 inches, and weighs 1,051 pounds.
“It feels really good,” Jamison said last week in a telephone interview with The Associated Press. “It’s a good accomplishment. I probably won’t ever kill anything else that big.”
His story made national news and the family traveled to New York to talk about their adventure, but blogs soon claimed to be able to prove the photos were faked. It’s hit the Internet with Jamison’s father setting up a website where you can learn all about it, see more pictures, and even buy an autographed photo.
Fox News quotes the father: “Before we got to New York this was a feel good story, everybody was excited about it,” Mike Stone said. “And now all of a sudden my family is suffering because people are making fun of it and thinking that it’s not real.”
In the heat of the moment, Mike Stone said, they snapped a few photographs for family and friends to share Jamison’s moment of pride.

“We would have took pictures of the scales, we would have took pictures of us measuring it, we would have took pictures of all the stuff if we would have thought this was going to be some big deal,” Mike Stone said. “No pictures have been touched,” the 11-year-old said. “They first were saying I couldn’t shoot the gun, but I could and I did.”
The Associated Press News Wire, followed by FOX News, reported that a “monster pig” had been shot by an eleven-year-old boy in rural Alabama. A dramatic photo (see Figure 2) accompanied the story. It showed the young hunter, Jamison Stone, a hardy 5 feet 5 inches, leaning on the back of the stupendous and dead 1,051 pound, 9 foot 4 inch, feral pig. This striking photo, which ran on the front page of the Saturday May 26th, New York Post, created an international news stir.
