Financial guru Suze Orman LIKE a Virgin

Financial guru Suze Orman said in a recent interview with The New York Times Magazine that she wishes she could marry her partner of seven years, Kathy Travis.

Orman claims that both of them have millions of dollars in their names and whenever one of them dies, the other will have to pay 50% in estate taxes out the A-$-$! She would like to marry Travis at least to save some money. Hey, they say it’s cheaper to keep her .. LOL! Suze’s LIQUID net worth is about $25 million and she has $7 million in real estate holdings. She says she has about $1 million in the stock market because “if I lose a million dollars, personally I don’t care.” Now that’s a BAD BITTY right there! :)

Now, maybe I have been under a rock, but I didn’t know about this “partner” of hers. And for those that have never heard of Suze, you MUST check out her 2005 book “The Money Book for the Young, Fabulous & Broke.” A must read for anyone under 35! Her next book drops in March titled “Women & Money.”

I have been watching Suze Orman make the rounds on television for years. Suze is a highly regarded and awarded advisor on personal finances. To me she will always be the “FICO Queen” as she has always regarded credit score (FICO score) as a key ingredient in financial success. Suze hosts a weekly personal finance show on CNBC and is the recipient of multiple Emmy Awards. Her books are incredibly popular as she has been a New York Times bestselling author with her last five. She is a regular on Oprah and a contributor to O Magazine.

Suze Orman looks great, transmits her message very clearly, and has a spirit in her delivery that makes personal finance captivating. At the same time she always had a bit of Rosie in her… but then again with so many strong, straight women out there (Clinton, Judge Judy, Martha Stewart) that did not necessarily mean she was a lesbian.

She made the announcement in the February 25th issue of New York Times Magazine after being pressed on her current living situation. Her biggest worry? The blow by estate taxes on the fortune she has amassed along with her partner and co-producer Kathy Travis. This tax, which affect more than just wealthy same-sex couples, is not fixed by state level marriage and civil union laws given that the federal tax code lies within federal jurisdiction (as do immigration laws). Given her newfound openness about her relationship I hope that Suze will help is gay guys and gals out with a special edition book for couples in her situation.
