This was supposed to be embargoed until 8am PST, but it looks like that isn’t being held (Mashable: we respect embargoes so you don’t have to).
So, it’s worth mentioning that social search engine Eurekster will announce a $5.5 million Series B round on Tuesday. The round was led by Technology Venture Partners (TVP) of Australia and Transcosmos Investments of Japan with the participation of private investors.
Eurekster, which owns the Swicki search engine, claims that there are 18,000 publishers and 50,000 Swickis worldwide, and in early 2006 there were rumors that Microsoft might be talking to the company about a deal. They lost out recently, however, when Friendster switched from Yahoo and Eurekster for search to 100% Google (see Google-Friendster).
It’s surprising that they’ve lasted this long, and seem to be doing well: social search engines have had trouble overcoming the might of Google, and many found themselves being perceived as social bookmarking sites - a market that del.icio.us already owned.
