Ok, all this discussion about what makes mobile blogging not yet popular in the Philippine landscape may have now been answered.
According to a very reliable source, there used to be more than 100,000 active/registered mobile bloggers in the Philippines and that’s just for Smart alone (both text and photos). Even if we don’t count the ones from Globe, that IS a huge number in my dictionary already.
However, despite the great success in achieving this number in such a short time (talk about a couple of months) this figure was primarily reinforced by the fact that during the trial run, moblogging service was free. Right after the free trial period was over, the total active count dropped to just 10% of the initial users.
So now we can all settle down and agree that “cost” is the primary stumbling-block in mobile blogging. Actually, come to think of it, almost anything you give away for free will eventually be popular.
